La trama è ambientata all'inizio del XX secolo nel Montana: qui un sadico proprietario di un ranch, Phil Burbank (Benedict Cumberbatch) lancia una campagna contro una giovane vedova, che in maniera inattesa sposa suo fratello e viene a vivere nel ranch.
